Redbird SD
High Value, Immersive Simulation
The Redbird SD is a top choice for flight schools needing an affordable, fully enclosed Advanced Aviation Training Device. It includes all of the features found on our groundbreaking FMX, with the exception of the motion platform making the SD an excellent alternative when space is at a premium.
With its wrap-around visual system, the Redbird SD will totally immerse your customers in their flight training. It’s versatile enough for single or multi-engine training and can represent glass panel or the traditional 6-pack avionics configurations. In short, the SD provides a government-approved, fully enclosed, visually stunning flight simulator for less than the price of a new SUV!

Immersive Visuals
In the past, simulators have been used almost exclusively for instrument instruction and a single screen was all you needed to show the runway when the student broke out at minimums. But why limit your customers' training and your profit if you don’t have to? The Redbird SD is a great primary training platform, thanks in large part to its expansive visual displays. You can still put’em in the soup if needed, but accurately simulating VFR flights opens up a huge range of uses for the SD. Let a student practice turns-around-a-point or show them the highway they’ll pass over on their long cross-country. With a world-wide terrain database to support the 200° visuals, the SD lets your customers experience the view from the cockpit before they ever leave the ground.
One Simulator, Dozens of Airplanes
Gone are the days when every aircraft in the fleet had the same avionics package. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could offer a simulator for every type and panel in your fleet without needing to spend a few hundred thousand dollars? We thought so too, that’s why we designed our innovative, quick-change aircraft configuration system. In less than 10 minutes, your instructors can switch the SD from a 172 with analog gauges to a SR22 Perspective to a Baron 58 with a 430/530, or any of the 30+ aircraft configurations we offer. From the latest in glass panel technology to the old 6-pack and lots of GPS/Radio stacks in between, the SD can meet just about any need.
Loggable Time, Valuable Training
We are firm believers in simulation-centric training and we know the value of the SD far outpaces the loggable hours, at the end of the day, we all want credit for our work. That’s why we made sure the SD can be certified in just about any country. The FAA has approved it as an Advanced Aviation Training Device, it meets the requirements for EASA FNTP qualification, and many other authorities recognize the value of training in the SD. Want more details about certification? We’ve got you covered.

×Optional Equipment
Control Loading - $8,495
When someone talks about a simulator, the fact that “it doesn’t feel like the real thing” almost always comes up. While that might not be a big deal when you’re teaching instrument procedures, this lack of “feel” turns most devices into a paper weight when you try to teach basic aircraft handling. The primary culprit of “simulator feel” is the traditional spring-loaded yoke system that has been the industry standard since the 1940’s. We’ve known that force feedback systems are the answer to this problem, but these systems have been hugely expensive and delicate components that aren’t even an option on most general aviation training devices … until now.
The Redbird Control Loading system is a mechanically simple, inexpensive force feedback system that takes the realism of your simulator experience to a completely new level. Control Loading is without doubt the most valuable upgrade you can make to your Redbird training device. It allows your customers to learn how the aircraft controls will feel at various trim and airspeed combinations. In fact, you’ll be able to teach the core building blocks of flight on the ground before a customer ever tries to manhandle the real aircraft into level flight. Unlike our competition, the Redbird Control Loading system is small, clean, quiet, and on our single yoke simulators, interchangeable.

Redbird Insight - $4,995
Whether you’re a student pilot or instructor, Insight provides valuable information to enhance the flight instruction process. With Redbird Insight, an instructor can monitor a training session from outside the simulator. They can view the flight from a variety of angles, both inside and outside the aircraft and record the flight for playback during a debriefing session.
Insight integrates with the Redbird line of flight simulators to render the outside view of the aircraft, a live video feed from the inside view of the cockpit and cockpit instrumentation onto an external display. Key aspects of the flight can be immediately reviewed on the Insight screen after a flight is completed by using DVR-like controls on the Insight viewing station.
Redbird Insight Includes:
- Stand-alone computer with software pre-installed
- Live video cockpit camera
- Automatic flight recording and playback
- Optional viewing screen and cabling can be added for $600
Redbird Cygnus - $599
Cygnus allows you to use any aviation or navigation apps running on your Apple iOS device while connected to any one of a wide range of flight simulation software products. When using Cygnus during a simulation session your iOS device and the aviation app it is running will believe that it is located wherever the aircraft in the active simulation is located. Cygnus is the perfect tool for training pilots in the use of iPad© aviation apps in a safe and controlled environment.
Cygnus Pro Wireless comes with a fully-functioning Bad Elf GPS Pro external Bluetooth wireless GPS receiver, and can be used to feed simulation data to up to 6 Apple iOS devices.
Cygnus Compatibility
Cygnus talks directly to the location services on your iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone, or iPod touch allowing you to display your simulated location on any location based App, including:
- ForeFlight Mobile
- Garmin Pilot
- WingX Pro7
- Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck
- Reader Plates
- CloudAhoy
Cygnus will work with most Windows based flight simulation software, including:
- All Redbird Simulators
- Lockheed Martin Prepar3D
- Microsoft ESP
- Microsoft Flight Simulator X
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2000-2004
- X-Plane 9 and 10
Redbird Corvus - $599
Corvus connects your Redbird simulator to ForeFlight (more EFB connections are in the works) by providing data akin to an ADS-B receiver. In addition to representing own-ship position of simulated aircraft, Corvus also broadcasts attitude and heading reference systems (AHRS) information as well as Traffic Information Services-Broadcast (TIS-B) data. Select Flight Information Services-Broadcast (FIS-B) functionality, such as weather and airspace information, are currently in development and will be available in future updates.
Custom Paint & Decals - $2,500
Want to show off your school spirit? We’ll customize your simulator to match your school colors and branding. Our creative team will work with you to choose colors and design decals to personalize your simulator for your training operation.
CAPS - $3,595
Nobody ever wants to pull the CAPS handle, but knowing when and how to do it is a critical part of emergency training that has been very difficult to accomplish. That's why we partnered with BRS to build this highly accurate add-on from the exact same components used in the real aircraft, minus the explosives. Redbird CAPS is a must have for flight schools that operate a MCX, FMX, or SD to train pilots in aircraft equipped with a whole aircraft parachute, including the Cirrus SR20 and SR22. The Redbird CAPS add-on gives your customers the advantage to learn by doing. Not only can they practice the deployment procedures until it's second nature, you'll be able to put them in the difficult scenarios that require them to make the hard choice or experience the outcome. All in the safety of you Redbird.
While operators of Cirrus SR20 and SR22 are the most obvious benefactors of this training, the Redbird CAPS add-on works with any of our aircraft configurations. This allows you to offer training on whole aircraft parachute system operation for pilots of with STC installations or create an aircraft agnostic course for your customers without needing to purchase a new aircraft configuration.
