Redbird is pleased to announce the integration of RealNav NavData updates with Redbird GPS software.
RealNav is a third-party database subscription built upon the navigation data produced by aviation authorities worldwide, and gathered by Lufthansa Systems. It contains current real-world global information about airports, runways, en route and terminal waypoints, VHF Navaids, airways, instrument approaches, departure procedures (SIDs), arrival procedures (STARs), and airspace.
We've designed the Redbird AATD software update process to be as simple and pain-free as possible. All updates will be automatically downloaded to your Redbird whenever it is connected to the internet. This download is done in the background to prevent interference with everyday use. When the latest software update has finished downloading, the Apply Updates button will appear on the main Insert Pilot Key screen. Most updates take 15 to 30 minutes to install. Every update we publish has been thoroughly tested on a wide range of device configurations. However, software is software and occasionally updates might impact the operation of your Redbird. Therefore, we highly recommend preforming the install of any update during our Phone Support hours of M-F, 8am to 6pm, central time. Please contact Redbird Support at (512) 301-0718 if you have any issues during or directly after installing the update.
It has come to our attention that iOS update 8.3 is unable to receive GPS data from Cygnus Pro Wireless and Cygnus Home Direct. In combination with Bad Elf, our engineers were able to determine that all accessories that use Apple’s 30-pin connection protocol are no longer able to correctly forward location data. Bad Elf has posted a similar notice on their blog. This also affects other 3rd party apps that use location services, such as ForeFlight.
Update (Tuesday 30-June): With the release of iOS 8.4, the bug that prevented most GPS accessories from providing location data has been fixed. Redbird Cygnus customers experiencing issues with iOS 8.3 should update to iOS 8.4.
